Chess football: Crown Cup
What if the ball moved like chess? Each piece kicks along its own lines, tackles the way it captures, and the keeper can make a save. A match runs three minutes, so a bad idea only costs you a little.

How it plays
- Score. Kick the ball into their net. First to five goals wins.
- Kick. With the ball, tap a lane: it flies along your piece’s lines.
- Tackle. No ball? Move as in chess, get close and take their carrier.
The details
- Dribble
- A gold dot moves the ball one step instead of a kick.
- Lines
- A rook kicks straight, a bishop on the diagonal, a knight chips a jump, a queen or the keeper any way.
- First in the way gets it
- A teammate in the lane is a pass, one of theirs is an interception, and a keeper makes a save. Tap the net for a shot.
- Tackled
- A queen or rook tackles from the next square, a bishop from two, a knight by its jump. Whoever is tackled sits out two turns.
- On the clock
- Six seconds a touch, three minutes a match. Level at the end is a golden goal, then penalties.
