Rook, Paper, Scissors! Play

Real-time chess: Crown Clash

Part chess, part arena card game. You spend sparks to drop pieces onto your half, then order them on a bell every three seconds. Pieces you leave alone march by themselves, and the towers shoot back.

How it plays

  1. Goal. Knock down their towers for crowns. Their King down wins outright.
  2. Drop. Tap a card, then a square of your half. Cards cost sparks.
  3. Order. Every 3 seconds a bell: tap a piece, then a square. Others march alone.

The details

Sparks
Pawns (a pair) 2, Knight or Bishop 3, Rook 5, Queen 7, and Freeze 2 stops an enemy piece or tower for two bells. A spark a beat, two in the last minute, up to 10. A drop acts from the next bell.
Pawns
A pawn steps forward, or one square sideways onto an empty square. It only takes forward on the diagonal.
Two for one square
Both sides’ orders land one at a time in an order the dice shuffle, never by who tapped first. The first to land moves in; the next one attacks it there if it can, or goes on autopilot instead.
Towers shoot
After every bell each tower shoots the nearest enemy piece in range, unless it is frozen.
Strike from two squares
Move onto an enemy tower from two squares or closer to strike it: your piece stays put and the tower loses 10 to 30. A capture hits twice as hard as a strike: if the piece falls you take its square; if not, a piece that slides stops just short of it and any other stays put.
Crowns and sudden death
A rook tower down is a crown and wakes their sleeping King. The King down is three crowns and the match. At 3:00 the most crowns wins; level on crowns means sudden death, and every tower crumbles by 10 a bell until someone is ahead.
